Viking Design, being a small business itself, is very efficiently run. It operates on a smaller budget than most of its competitors, but don't let size fool you. Though the office is admittedly not impressive, our file management system would satisfy the neatest neat-freak, and our project management process keeps workflow running smoothly. Skipping the luxuries has allowed for investments in the latest software and top-of-the-line machines. All this results in lower overhead cost - a savings that we pass on to our clients.

Owner/designer Doug Knutsen, 33, has a formal education in design with Adobe software, a degree in graphic design and and an extensive background in fine arts, as well as architecture and engineering. He's been a part of fast-paced, corporate teams and done a great deal of work with small business owners.

Our process
A solid plan forms the foundation of any well-done job, and graphic design is no exception. The fundamental difference between "art" and "design" is the intentional achievement of desired goals; the solution to a problem - in this case, visual communication. Viking Design's workplan has been developed to give you the best possible end product. And by keeping the project on time and focused, it stays on budget as well.

Honest billing
Viking Design provides uniquely-numbered invoices with itemized projects and project components, showing component costs, expenses and totals. You'll get an invoice at the completion of each stage of a project to help you keep a handle on your expenses. And to make life a little easier for you, Viking Design can accept MasterCard, Visa and Discover. Dollar amounts are in USD, and Viking Design is proudly based in beautiful, tax-free New Hampshire!

Times are tough, but don't let a tight budget get you down - small, focused steps and a collaborative business relationship can generate big results. Pricing varies with the scope of the project, and every project is as unique as your business, so please contact Viking Design for a quote.

A few words on speculative work

• It is Viking Design's policy not to do speculative work. (For example, "Do a logo for me and I'll buy it if I like it," or "logo contest: winner gets $500!") Speculative projects require an investment of time and ideas, which are the essence of the service designers provide, without any guarantee of compensation. This kind of work is simply bad business practice.
• Viking Design is dedicated to providing a quality service to its clients, but speculative work from any designer is almost certain to be sub-par. Without establishing a relationship between client & designer, a visual solution will lack the necessary background and research to be effective.
• The bottom line: graphic design is a professional service. (You wouldn't ask an architect to design your house on speculation, would you?) The work shown in the samples on this site should give a sense of Viking Design's style and abilities. We'll be very happy to discuss your next project, and the exciting directions it might take, but we cannot commit to a project without a commitment from you as well.
